Welcome to BADAS!

We are a small but enthusiastic community of amateur astronomers, based in Blackpool and the Fylde. We welcome absolute beginners, casual star-gazers, imagers/astrophotographers, experienced visual observers, armchair astronomers, and their friends. Our society offers monthly talks, practical demo's, observing sessions, social events and outreach activities.

You don't need to be an expert in astronomy or science to join. We offer friendly support to amateur astronomers of all levels and encourage the sharing of knowledge and experience amongst members.

If you'd like to explore the universe with us, come along to a meeting (first meetings are free) or get in touch — we'd love to welcome you to our society.

Monthly Meetings

We host regular meetings at Blackpool Cricket Club (next to Stanley Park) on the SECOND WEDNESDAY* of every month. Speakers range from professional astronomers to society members presenting their own particular interest in the hobby.

We also have more practical sessions where we discuss a particular observing topic, such as our popular telescope workshop evenings.

After the speaker we usually have a Members' Session where all members are invited to show and tell what they have been up to since the last meeting, whether that be astrophotography, observing reports, new kit purchases, etc...

* Occasionally we need to reschedule if another event is taking place at the Cricket Club on our night - this will be communicated at the time.

Observing Sessions

These are usually at Pilling but can also be at other locations around the Fylde. View the Moon, planets, meteor showers, comets, galaxies, and even sometimes the sun through members' and the society's specialist equipment. New members are especially welcome!

We also like to encourage our members to get outside under a clear sky as often as possible. They can then share their results and observations in the members' sessions at the monthly meetings, as well as on the society's Whatsapp group.

Observing Resources

Become a Member

All ages and experience levels are welcome. Under 18s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. As a member you'll enjoy talks, observing sessions, access to our resources, and a chance to connect with fellow amateur astronomers.

The Membership Subscription is £20 a year, due at the AGM in June. If you join part-way through the year, you'll just pay a fair amount for the months left - rounded to the nearest quarter.

You're very welcome to just come along to a meeting, the first meeting is free and there is no requirement to join on your first attendance.

Alternatively if you have any questions about joining, or anything else - please see the contact section below.
